House in Bloomington

Bloomington, Indiana 2014

Program:

Renovation and addition to historic house for young couple with a daughter. This backyard addition needed to double the square footage of the residence with a kitchen, laundry facility, a second bedroom and bathroom, and integrate with the existing 100 year-old house.  Approval with the local historic preservation commission was required and was gained unanimously after the first presentation of the project.  The design incorporates the stone base and wood painted siding to create a new composition and character creating a face to the backyard where many social gatherings take place.  The many windows both high and low provide ample eastern and southern light to the kitchen and eating areas.
