Dining Table

1992

Program:

Dining table to seat four persons in an compact urban apartment.

Status: Complete

This dining table, mounted on casters for portability in a small space, is made from poplar and pine.  The legs are scalloped to dematerialize much of the bulkiness of the 4” x 4” pine posts.  The scalloping exposes interesting configurations of wood grain as cuts are at 45 degrees from the line of the original wood member.  The 4 x 4 wood members insert cleanly into the grid configuration of the poplar structure carrying the glass table top.  The slotted connections of the poplar wood grid top is held together with friction fit requiring no glue.
